The ban on back-packs in Rite Aid, the hired security guard in the public library, the blatant lack of respect for a teenager’s rights to common courtesy—all are testimony to age discrimination being present in Carmel Valley. Teen discrimination in Carmel Valley affects the lives of many TPHS students, however, there are only a surprising few that choose to stand up against the injustice they face. In the last 10 to 20 years, the topic of whether or not cinema portrays society or society conforms to cinema has been intensely debated. Statistics show that the average American family spends over six hours a day taking in media footage through movies, television, or videos. Specialist Dick Rolfe says that “when you spend that much time watching something, you have just developed new role models and a new window on life.”
